The British Journal of Occupational Therapy (BJOT) publishes peer-reviewed articles with international relevance that advance knowledge in research, practice, education, and policy in occupational therapy. The journal has been established since 1938, is owned by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, and has been published with SAGE since 2015. It is published monthly and is peer reviewed, with complete editorial independence from the Royal College. The journal’s international Editorial Board comprises leading figures in occupational therapy research working in a range of areas.

The BJOT Article Excellence Award, given by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), recognizes excellence in articles contributing to the advancement of occupational therapy, internationally. The winner is selected from all BJOT articles published in the previous calendar year. Articles are nominated by the BJOT Editorial Board.

Content

BJOT publishes research articles, reviews, editorials and Registered RCT protocols. We publish practice analysis articles and opinion pieces only if they are of exceptional quality. The journal regularly publishes special issues on topics relevant to occupational therapy.

Anyone can submit their research to BJOT, and international submissions are welcomed, as are interdisciplinary or related research studies that can show their relevance to occupational therapy. The journal particularly encourages the submission of feasibility and pilot studies and systematic reviews.

The Editorial Board’s current strategy is to focus on internationally relevant research and reviews and in particular those on clinical and client areas, although submissions in all relevant areas are welcomed. We also welcome proposals for topics for guest-edited special issues, which are considered by our editor-in-chief in liaison with the BJOT Editorial Board.

Final decisions are at the editor-in-chief’s discretion. For further information please see the Peer Review Policy in the Manuscript Submission Guidelines.

BJOT is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
