`Ageing in Society brings forth exciting new questions, fresh perspectives, and a necessary critical approach to key issues - this is indeed an authoritative introduction. The authors not only have made significant contributions to gerontology, but offer the reader considerations for what could be, not just what is, the design of old age in society. The book will inform students in ways that so many texts in the area, satisfied with comfortable bromides, do not' - Jaber Gubrium, Editor of Journal of Aging Studies, University of Missouri-Columbia
This is a very good reading resource for PY2004 DPP level 5.
I really enjoyed reviewing this book and I think it will be a good addition to our resources and one which the students will find easy to use
really useful and contemporary text book
Up to date perspectives and new insights into our worldwide ageing society. Easy to read.
A good theoretical resource for understanding the complex issues of ageing in today's society.
A very useful text for our students studying Caring for Older people and looking at the ageing population. A recommended read.
Superb addition to current clinical reading list and for Health Psychology. Detailed and thorough blending psychosocial issues with biomedical models.
An encompassing applied view of gerontology in an easy access format for students of all levels
A valuable book for people caring for older relatives and those working professionally with older people in social work and pastoral settings, including hospitals and residential care. Older people would also find the book useful to inspire and inform them on their own journeys of ageing.
This is a really useful edition of a book which I first read many years ago. It provides a comprehensive overview of the topic and a good multidisciplinary grounding for students.
A very good book, students are able to have a clearer understanding of the ageing process
We are using this as part of our Human Growth and Development course and have found it to be a nice addition to our course materials
The text brings together multiple aspects of ageing in a comprehensive and understandable way. The book is perfect for both students and early researchers to gain an insight into the multi-faceted domain of ageing.
An excellent book tackling many pertinent issues. I have recommended it to my honours year students.
excellent book that addresses the key ideas in relation to ageing and ageing within contemporary society. fantastic as a teaching aid and novice PHD researchers as it gives so much guidance
This text explores the aging from many different aspects such as biological, psychological and social taking relationships and research consideration. It is an excellent foundation and progressive book for any nursing course.
I really appreciate the newly added international perspectives and hope to see this wider vision refelected in my students written work.
This is an ideal book to introduce undergrads to theoretical concepts of ageing and how these are incorporated and interpreted by the wider society. I am adopting this as a supplemental book to a general sociology course, as an example of a social group's hetrogeneity. This book provides a good chapter explaining the demographics of the ageing population, and explores by individually authored chapters, issues relating to theory, research, work, relationships, environment and cognition; and then concludes with a chapter examining 'ageing into the future'.
Plenty of relevant material here so a good general read.
