For anyone longing to give the game a try, you can grab the PDF of The Dee Sanction Core Rules for $7.17 (about 25% off the standard price).

In addition, you can get the first three adventures, supernatural supplement The Sight, character journal The Book of Days, and the bestiary expansion The Leaf Ire all at a similar discounted price in this limited time offer.

Coincidentally, the September Historical Settings Sale ends about the same time as the current Kickstarter for The Dee Sanction: Adventures print edition!

If you haven’t got in on the crowdfunding yet, Adventures gathers all five current adventures plus a stretch goal sixth—In Fertile Soil—into a perfect-bound format with brand new art from Evlyn Moreau. For £8 plus shipping, you get a 48-page print copy.

Or, if you time it right, at 2PM on Sunday (September 12) we will release the last ten Distinguished Agents—offering you the last hardcover Core Rules from the original Kickstarter AND the print edition of Adventures for £25 plus shipping.

So, you have about five days left to grab one, the other, or both!

Adventures Kickstart in September https://thedeesanction.com/adventures-kickstart-in-september/ https://thedeesanction.com/adventures-kickstart-in-september/#respond Mon, 30 Aug 2021 07:30:51 +0000 https://thedeesanction.com/?p=794 Continue ReadingAdventures Kickstart in September]]> As a game with potential to see troubled and wary Agents sent across all the counties of England and beyond into the troubled depths of Europe, a Dee Sanction GM is always in need of adventures.

Simple mechanics and fast character generation combine to provide a great way to have quick pick up games or an ongoing campaign. If you seek some of that supernatural action with a table of friends, then you’ll want some adventures to get you going.

The Dee Sanction: Adventures gathers five such tales of horror and shadow, with contrasting themes and backdrops, pitting your expendable Agents against book thieves, traitors, elder magic, assassins and forces not of this earth.

The Dee Sanction: Adventures Kickstarter launches at 14:00 BST 1st September to fund a 36-page print book with maps, illustrations, and handouts.

With your support, stretch goals can add more illustrations, colour printing, additional adventures, and the possibility of more — like guidance on linking the adventures, extra adversaries, and additional adventure seeds to take you beyond the end of the current adventures.

You’ll be relieved to know that there isn’t a complete countdown until the Kickstarter for The Dee Sanction ends, although please allow the indulgence of a few.

There are less than 30 hours left on the Kickstarter, so if you haven’t committed left or you’ve only opted for updates, then the deadline looms.

If you back at a level with access to stretch goals you will get yourself quite a bundle:

  • Five PDF adventures
  • PDF of 20 Tudor Mini Guild characters
  • PDF map of the Ossulstone Hundred
  • PDF of the Sanction Journal
  • 68-page core rules, including art by Evlyn Moreau, extended bestiary and extended character creation options
If you opt for a few Add-Ons, there’s a whole lot more to consider, including physical versions of the map or the journal — in the form of The Book of Days — as well as dice trays, game rolls, wipeable character cards, and extra copies of the core book.

And, you shouldn’t forget that even if you have backed already you can upgrade your pledge, add something extra — including books for The Cthulhu Hack — or give a shout-out and a share on Twitter, as if we hit 100 x shares we’ll add an extra pre-generated character to the existing five-character selection.

Final Week on Kickstarter https://thedeesanction.com/final-week-on-kickstarter/ https://thedeesanction.com/final-week-on-kickstarter/#respond Sun, 15 Nov 2020 17:31:24 +0000 http://thedeesanction.com/?p=609 Continue ReadingFinal Week on Kickstarter]]>
Yesterday, the crowd-funding for publication of The Dee Sanction achieved another Stretch Goal, securing Dry Wipeable Character Cards for the game — and two each for those who have backed physical books.

The next Stretch Goals sees a further PDF adventure, which in some way might explain or connect with an inexplicable injury suffered by Doctor John Dee (according to his sketchy and oftentimes obtuse diary entries).

I can hardly believe that we have achieved this level and the suggestion of an adventure came without expecting to reach such heights. To everyone who has made that possible, my thanks.

And we have more to come in this, the final week of the Kickstarter.

Kickstarter Progress https://thedeesanction.com/kickstarter-progress/ https://thedeesanction.com/kickstarter-progress/#respond Wed, 04 Nov 2020 13:39:10 +0000 http://thedeesanction.com/?p=598 Continue ReadingKickstarter Progress]]> The Dee Sanction Kickstarter has crashed, bashed and smashed through our initial goal and continued right on through the first NINE Stretch Goals. Given that this has happened in the first three days, we’ve been bowled over by your support.

At this point in the campaign — when we hit £14,000, everyone with access to stretch goals will have a 66-page core book to look forward to with an expanded, illustrated Bestiary, supported by four digital adventurestwenty mini Tudor characters, a digital map of the Ossulstone Hundred, and a digital Sanction Journal.

Over the remaining 18 days, we’re conscious that the same level of new pledges won’t continue — which is some measure of relief, as we’re going to run out of Stretch Goal ideas! — but we plan to update you on elements of the system, a little of the lore, and ponder possible Add Ons.

Whatever you do, don’t stop reaching out to people you know who might be interested in getting involved. The Dee Sanction is a niche game, but we’re happy to see that historical, supernatural niche blown wide open to as many people as possible. Remember to tag your posts #DeeSanctionRecruiting so we can network our efforts — the future of Queen and country depends on it.

And, as some measure of thanks, here’s a desktop image to adorn your PC or tablet (it might challenge a phone… we’ll look into it!)

Keep a watch for more updates and Stretch Goals achieved on The Dee Sanction Kickstarter.

Kickstarter Launches https://thedeesanction.com/kickstarter-launches/ https://thedeesanction.com/kickstarter-launches/#respond Sun, 01 Nov 2020 14:00:07 +0000 http://thedeesanction.com/?p=592 Continue ReadingKickstarter Launches]]> The Kickstarter for The Dee Sanction core book launches today — at 3PM (GMT), 1st November — and runs for 21 days.

This Kickstarter is the culmination of weeks of effort getting the building blocks of production, publicity and pledges in order. It is also the satisfying conclusion to seven years of tinkering with the setting, background concepts and, most recently, settling on the crunch framework of the game mechanics.

The core of the Kickstarter is the book, available in PDF (the Page), softcover (the Gentlefolk) and a cloth-bound hardcover version with a foil-blocked sigil of the Black Seal on the front (the Courtier).

For those who want a little bit more, there’s the Agent of Dee (limited to 75 backers), which offers a Kickstarter Exclusive All Rolled Up game roll with a metal buckle. The versatile, compact hobby wrap can hold more than 100 polyhedral dice, plus up to 10 pens and pencils, as well as index cards or a small notepad. It will feature a badge and, as I say, a metal buckle closure — something that generally only appears on the high-end oilskin Adventurer series All Rolled Ups.

The campaign will fund a 60-page black-and-white illustrated compact book (A5, 148 x 210mm/5.8 x 8.3 inches), 95% written at the time the Kickstarter starts and tested over several years.

If we hit the £3,000 goal for the Kickstarter, we’ll add more art, more content and enhance the range of initial digital material available to support the game.

Beyond the base Goal of £3,000, stretch goals will add:

  •  More Art (£4,000) – We will add two additional full-page commission pieces by the talented Evlyn Moreau to the Core Book.
  •  PDF Adventures #1 through 4 (various) – Over the course of playtesting the game, many adventures have been run, taking the Dee Sanction from the heart of the Ossulstone Hundred in the shadow of the Tower to the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains in the wilds of eastern Europe.
  •  Longer Bestiary (£6,000) – The Core Book contains a two-page bestiary. At this stage, we will expand that count to four-pages in total.
  •  Tudor Mini Guild (£8,000) – We will commission Evlyn to create twenty mini character portraits in the style of her Fabulous Mini Guild. All backers of virtual or physical product will receive a copy of the PDF version to print out or use online as tokens.
  •  Ossulstone Map (£10,000) – First glimpsed at Dragonmeet in 2019, the part of London at the heart of many Dee Sanction investigations is that which lies in the shadow of the Tower of London. A work-in-progress, at this level all backers of virtual or physical product will receive a copy of the PDF version to print out or use online.
  •  Sanction Journal (£11,000) – The Dee Sanction encourages a play style that weaves tales across different dates, places and characters. Rather than restrict character information to just a sheet, a Sanction Journal – also known as a Book of Days – provides copies of the character sheet interspersed with a mix of gridded, lined, and dotted paper. All backers of virtual or physical product will receive a copy of the PDF version to print and use.

If we hit the high end, we have more stretch goals in mind, but those will have to wait!

The Actual Play content on the page features both the adventure from the core book — Lost in Translation — and one of the stretch goal adventures — Ex Libris (in somewhat shortened form).

All being well, there are busy months ahead, with the final polish to apply on the core book, artwork to wrangle, and (hopefully) adventures to write. Head over to the Kickstarter shortly and pledge your support to the Queen and The Dee Sanction.
