We commit to building an inclusive organization where all individuals are treated with fairness and respect, regardless of age, ability, sex, gender, marriage or partnership status, pregnancy or parental responsibilities, race, religion or belief, socio-economic background, or sexual orientation.
To reduce bias in our hiring practices, we have updated job descriptions to ensure inclusive language and a focus on competencies and skills (instead of publishing experience), removed degree requirements, and transitioned to panel interviewing. We have broadened the types and number of colleges and universities with whom we partner when searching for interns and entry-level positions, and hire from diverse candidate pools. We are also tapping into a wider array of professional networks adjacent to, or outside of, academic publishing.
Equally important is the creation of employee resource groups and more wide-ranging mentoring programs so all of our employees feel a sense of belonging and have equal opportunity for advancement.
